NeighborhoodLIFT partner Wells Fargo helps families find home
Wells Fargo, in partnership with NeighborWorks America and NeighborWorks Home Partners, has been one of the largest providers of down payment assistance to Minneapolis and Saint Paul via the NeighborhoodLIFT program. Since 2012, Wells Fargo has provided $13.9 million through this program for down payment assistance and program support to 875 new homeowners in the Twin Cities. NeighborWorks Home Partners has been a key community partner for this program, providing homebuyer education and receiving and processing the applications for the down payment funds.
Wells Fargo has operated in Minnesota since 1885, and is the state’s third-largest private employer, with 18,000 employees. They are committed to helping Minnesotans achieve and sustain the dream of homeownership or obtain access to stable housing through programs and financial education initiatives.
Brima Caulker recently became a homeowner with help from Wells Fargo, just two years after moving to Minnesota from Sierra Leone.
With only modest savings, the couple never expected to be able to buy a home, especially in the U.S. Their outlook changed, however, after they met with a Wells Fargo home mortgage consultant who reviewed their financial information and determined that the Caulkers qualified for a low down payment home loan from Wells Fargo through the yourFirst Mortgage program.
Caulker said Wells Fargo “gave us hope. And our mortgage consultant always took the extra time to talk to us, any time of the day. He helped us through the process. I know he’s very busy, but he always acted like we were his only customers.”
