Lead is a toxin found in many homes built before 1978. Windows are a common source.

Lead is a serious hazard that can have life-long impact on developing brains. Children under age six are at the greatest risk of suffering the effects of lead poisoning, though it is dangerous at any time. We partner with the Ramsey County Department of Health to provide affordable replacement of lead-containing windows to reduce exposure to lead.  The program is available to Ramsey County residents.  Rental properties can also qualify, based on the income of the tenant.

  • A child under age six must occupy the home or apartment.
  • Occupants must be at or below 80% of Area Median Income ($68,000 for a family of four)
  • Window components must be deteriorated and painted with lead-based paint.

For an owner-occupied property, 75% of the window replacement cost is covered by a grant. Other grants or loans may be available to help pay for the homeowner portion.  For a rental property, 50% of the cost is covered by a grant. The rental property owner pays the remainder.

Our home improvement team is happy to help you get started and guide you through the application process.
