Get help to get lead out of your home

Lead is a serious hazard that can have life-long impact on developing brains. Children under age six are at the greatest risk of suffering the effects of lead poisoning, though it is dangerous at any time.  Ramsey County Department of Health has a program to provide affordable replacement of lead-containing windows to reduce exposure to lead.  The program is available to Ramsey County residents.  Rental properties can also qualify, based on the income of the tenant.

  • A child under age six must occupy the home or apartment.
  • Occupants must be at or below 80% of Area Median Income
  • Window components must be deteriorated and painted with lead-based paint.

For an owner-occupied property, 75% of the window replacement cost is covered by a grant.  For a rental property, 50% of the cost is covered by a grant. The rental property owner pays the remainder.

Limited availability: We have received a Neighborhood STAR grant from the City of Saint Paul that may reduce the property owner’s portion of the cost by $500. If you qualify for this grant, you will be notified by Ramsey County Department of Health when you apply.
