Give to the Max Day 2020: Expanding Access and Equity in Homeownership

An African American man wearing an orange button down shirt, dark jeans, and a baseball cap stands on the deck of his new home with arms stretched to the side.

Kali Terry is the first person in his family to own a home.

When Kali purchased a duplex in the Rondo neighborhood of Saint Paul, he first engaged with NeighborWorks Home Partners to access down payment assistance that made the home more affordable. When he attended a Home Stretch homebuyer workshop, he learned more about the steps involved in making an offer and closing on a home.  He also learned about the home improvement financing that he would later use to update his home and add an additional unit of affordable housing in his neighborhood.

“I’ve turned a potential liability – my housing expense – into an income-producing asset.  It’s a total game-changer for me.”

Kali says that information was the key to seeing the possibilities of homeownership.  And now that he’s learned the process, he’s eager to keep going.

“Homeownership has put me into a position of power, to lower my expenses and build income,” said Terry.  “It’s the ultimate home hack.”

When you support NeighborWorks Home Partners on Give to the Max Day, you’ll help us reach more potential homeowners like Kali and help them to realize their dreams.

Special event!

We are partnering with the East Side Freedom Library this Give to the Max Day for a Quiz Bowl that pits St. Paul Politicians against Realtors in a battle of knowledge about our city. Proceeds will support both organizations, raising awareness of historic inequities in housing policy and taking action to increase access to homeownership for households of color.  Who will win? You can choose a team to back when you make a donation. Proceeds will be shared between both organizations.
